Agritourism in Western Quebec
Farms & More Surrounding Montréal
The Montréal area and surrounding southwestern regions are hotspots for agritourism in Quebec. From the scenic Montérégie region to the city itself, southern Quebec’s farming scene is so hot right now.
West of Montréal near Dorval, the Nid'Otruche is an expansive ostrich farm in in the Lower Laurentians region. Also nearby, Bleu Lavande in Fitch Bay happens to be the largest producer of lavender in Canada. Other area farms include Ferme L'Auteuilloise, La Courgerie, Ferme Normand Dagenais, Ferme Marineau, Ferme Sainte-Dorothée, Ferme F. Turcot, and Fromagerie du vieux St-François.
Just south of Montreal, agritourists are encouraged to try the Countryman’s Tour – set in southern Quebec’s Montérégie region. This 197-kilometer agricultural tour passes farms and vineyards for fresh cider, fruits, and vegetables – including Ferme Guyon, La ferme Quinn, Ferme Hubert Sauvé, and Ferme Jean Duchesne.
One of the reigning champs for agritourism in Quebec, the Cap-Saint-Jacques Nature Park's Ecological Farm offers everything from farm animals and greenhouses to cross-country skiing. Montréal’s largest nature park, the free Cap-Saint-Jacques Nature Park's Ecological Farm also offers information sessions on local and organic food, plus a restaurant, sugar shack, and wagon rides.
Another agriculturally heavy area in southwestern Quebec is the city of Ripon. Enjoy local cheeses from Fermes Les Folies Bergeres – a nearby roadside market – and take home fresh meat from Ferme Moreau or Ferme Fée et Fougère. Ferme aux Pleines Saveurs and La Ferme HLF du Lac Simon feature organic fruits and vegetables, while Vignoble Domaine Bresee offers guided tours of their winery and beef farm.
